New perspective from a single story

On my first day of freshman year, someone said something purposefully cringey, when calling role, while being a shorter guy, and bright clothing I assumed he was odd, and weird, and avoided conversations. later that year I gave talking to him a shot and found out he was really funny. I have remained friends with him to this day. I would've really regretted taking his single story, as his full person.

4.5 Week Rundown

I need to do better in this class, in my other classes I have great grades, and have shown work effort. In multicultural lit, I have participated and have knowledge about the class. I haven't been working and focused on my blog post as expected of me, then I cannot only pass but pass with a high grade.

Difference in troy, between live and book

Troy, seems more aggressive in live action, rather than the story, when I visualize his lines he seems calm, collected. By seeing his rage and anger physically, I see how scary he can be, and have the background knowledge to know what's really going on mentally for troy, and why he treats his son this way. I also now truly understand how manic he is. Troy is a bad father and scary human, from my perspective the images show his true colors

Island travels with you

When I think of, "The Island Travels With You", in terms of my heritage I feel like I'm closest to my Irish heritage. I show this in my respect and modesty for the people around me, it reflection less arrogance, and my ambition to do good. However, I have always lived in Atlanta and understand that this is my island, I am American, If I were to travel to another country, I would bring America with me. I could never forget how I was raised, and the respect I was taught. Another country could change me if I live there for a long time, but it will not re-make me. I feel I bring my heritage with me, and I would bring my country too.

My stereotype

I dated a black girl when we were in 8th grade, and after weeks of dating she came up to me and said, "my friend thought you were racist!" like I was supposed to laugh about it. I didn't it made me uncomfortable, there was nothing I did to make me look this way, besides what I was physically born with. I am white and because of that people assumed I'm racist, this expectation made me think I was doing something wrong or I wasn't acting how I should around my black friends. this caused a rift, a conversational road block, I couldn't figure out what I needed to do differently causing me to be uncomfortable in conversations, and I realized I became what I was afraid of, by being afraid. I chose to forget that and tell myself there was nothing wrong with the way I spoke to people. It was the single story that hurt me.  Aug 24

Favorite learning method

My most efficient learning method is a class discussion or debate, I have a lot of trouble focusing on a single thing at school, but if you put me in a class discussion I think about all the different arguments everyone else is going to make, and how to combat them. If I have to take notes, and cant do anything else, I feel handicapped. I don't have much motivation I'd much rather put my head down. There is a larger difference between the two because I also enjoy being social, and if I have permission to argue or discuss, and end up correcting my friend, having fun, and learning at the same time I know I will properly absorb the information.

Boy

As a boy, when I got to the age, I didn't like my leg hair and talked about wanting to start shaving it. My mom responded and told me that people would see that and assume I'm gay. I never wanted too seem so, I never shaved my legs, there are things that I have to do to appear more welcoming, while not seeming too welcoming, expectations are hard, you must focus if you do not want to become a product of those surroundings.
